Strunz & Farah – Mosaico (1982)
MP3 @ 320 kbps | Genre: Jazz, World Fusion, Instrumental Virtuoso
Strunz & Farah is a guitar duo with an eclectic sound that could be described as a cross between world fusion and flamenco. Strunz & Farah have set off a chain reaction in the world of the guitar. Jorge Strunz and Ardeshir Farah, originally from Costa Rica and Iran respectively, have pioneered a new expression for the acoustic guitar. Bringing the cultural riches of their native lands to their highly virtuosic, rhythmic, and improvisation-rich original compositions, these “fieras de la guitarra” (“wild animals of the guitar”) have profoundly influenced guitarists everywhere, creating a new genre.
Jorge, given his first guitar at… Continue reading...

Strunz & Farah – Guitarras (1985)
MP3 @ 320 kbps | Genre: Jazz Fusion, World Fusion, Instrumental Virtuoso
Guitarras was guitar duo Strunz & Farah’s follow up CD to “Frontera”, which was a critical favorite and brought the pair much noteriety. Their 1985 offering displayed brilliance, esoterica and creativity all at once. Jorge Strunz plays acoustic nylon guitar on the bulk of the tunes, while Ardeshir Farah wields a mighty steel string acoutic guitar – a great sonic mesh which yielded a few standout tracks. First, the percussive “Zambalera”, based around a South American rhythm; then “Suenos (Part I)” which begins with a dream-like quiality and develops into a Strunz/Farah showdown; and finally “The Feathered Serpent”, a dynamic track inspired by… Continue reading...

Strunz & Farah – Frontera (1984)
New Age, World Fusion | MP3 100 MB 320 kbps | Milestone | 43:00 | full scans
Frontera is an intriguing effort by a duo whose music would unfortunately quickly turn into flaccid new age mush. Clearly influenced by the likes of Al DiMeola and the ECM stable, Jorge Strunz and Ardeshir Farah start from the mellowest side of post-fusion ’70s jazz, add world music forms suggested by their varied upbringings (Strunz was born in Costa Rica and raised around the world as the son of a diplomat; Farah was born in Iran and educated in England), and then incorporate a few hints of the sound that Windham Hill Records would soon turn into clichéd mush… Continue reading...
